Aeration may be the most important thing that you can do for your lawn. Often after the summer months you’ve lost some turf to heat stress, disease, and mechanical damage (e.g., lawn mowers). In addition, because of extreme heat, mowing, or extra foot traffic during summer, your soil may be badly compacted.

Aeration can provide just the help that your soil needs to return your turf to its former beauty. Most experts agree that lawns need aerating at least once a year. Some lawns require aeration more often due to the type of soil (e.g., clay mixes) and amount of traffic on the lawn.

A good time to aerate is during fall or spring seeding times. Aerating your lawn can revitalize your lawn by allowing nutrients, water and air to penetrate to the roots of your turf grass.
